Welcome to the Mathcasts blog. We're glad you’re here!
This is your place to see what’s new with mathcasts, mathcast makers, and to share ideas with us and with each other. Sometimes we’ll share using words and sometimes using screencasts. Mathcasts (screencasts created with graphics tablets, Tablet PCs, or electronic whiteboards + Camtasia Studio + a microphone) have the power to help us collaborate, help us teach, help us learn, make us laugh, and make the world a flatter and better place. Let’s learn and transform our world together!
A little about my background…
I (Tim Fahlberg) have been creating mathcasts since 1997 (see a more complete history here).
The original idea was to create tutorials with voice for my high school
students. I wanted to create a “Multimedia Math Website” and got
funding from the Issaquah Schools Foundation. (Issaquah is near
Seattle in Washington State on the west coast of the United States). I
also later received grant money from the Lake Washington School
District Technology Association.
Over the years I’ve spent thousands of hours and a lot of money on tools trying to develop simple and advanced methods for creating and sharing movies.
Inspiration and thanks
TechSmith (in particular Betsy Weber,
their Chief Evangelist) has played a key role in the development of mathcasts because Camtasia Studio has been the most critically
important tool for mathcast creation and production. Betsy, a
connector and master blogger, has been encouraging me to blog for a
while and I’m thankful she has (her Visual Lounge has been my greatest inspiration).
Over the past 3 years I have been joined by an increasing number of teachers and students who now share my enthusiasm for transforming the world of teaching and learning through the power of Whiteboard Movies. I’m looking forward to blogging about many of them soon to honor and showcase their work.
Please feel free to contact me if there’s anything I can help you with!
