What are Mathcasts

Version 12, changed by LFS. 05/04/2007.   Show version history

Mathcasts are screencasts for mathematics - that is, screen movies of writing with voice and/or captions that focus on mathematics.

Mathcasts were originally called "math movies" (1997) and then "Whiteboard Movies" (2001) by Tim Fahlberg. The term mathcasts was suggested by Mary Marotta.

Jon Udell coined the term screencast.  Jon interviewed Tim Fahlberg about mathcasts on September 28, 2006 for a Friday podcast.  Read his blog post about it, listen to the podcast, or read a follow up blog post related to mathcasts and on-demand education which helped inspire this new wiki.

     Anyone can make a mathcast!

Here Tim and his 3-year old daughter are making a mathcast.
